Veragua Rainforest Park
Who doesn’t want to visit a rainforest? Our planet is filled with beauty and the rainforests of the world are home to so much of it. Explore the natural habitats of hundreds of different species of butterflies, frogs, reptiles, and animals as well. Monkeys, tropical birds, and even sloths are typical animals that you’ll find at the zoo, but in the Veragua Rainforest Park, you’ll find them out in their natural environment living life as free as can be.
The park contains hiking trails with gorgeous scenery including a magnificent waterfall. And if you’re someone who is more on the adventurous side of life, you can even take a ride on a zip-line.
Playa Bonita
No trip to a tropical destination is complete without going to the beach and Playa Bonita is the beach that you must definitely see.
The beach is located just a few miles from Puerto Limón. The crisp, crystal blue water, the salty sea air, and the light-colored sand is everything you could hope for in a beach. To top it off, you can get some top-notch food and drinks to enjoy while you sit back in your chair and take it all in.
The Sloth Sanctuary
As I mentioned already, in the Veragua Rainforest Park you’ll find a massive array of wildlife including sloths, but if you really want to see some then just head over to the Sloth Sanctuary. There you’ll find a plethora of sloths just hanging out. If you’re hoping to get some photos of the animals, you shouldn’t have any trouble there at all.
Vargas Park
Vargas Park is a park along the coast where you can enjoy hearing the sound of waves crashing against the shoreline while you take a walk to enjoy the scenery.
It’s not unusual to encounter some of Playa Limón’s indigenous wildlife during your stroll through the tropical plants and massive palm trees resting as though they too are enjoying the surroundings.
The best part about the park is that there is no cost of admission. It’s completely free. So feel free to stay awhile. You may even want to consider renting a bicycle and going for a ride through the park that way you can be sure you see everything.
Central Market
As with any other tropical destination, you can’t leave without experiencing the food of the country first hand, and the central market of Puerto Limón is where you want to go. There you’ll experience the feel of what life is like for locals. This is where they come together and sell their locally grown produce, sell their souvenirs, and offer some delicious food.
Overall, Puerto Limón is a great spot to take the entire family. It’s not too crowded as you’ll find in many tourist destinations. You’ll get to meet friendly locals who always have great stories about life in their home city.
